May 03, 2008 was a day in remembrance of refugees in Orange County. Having grass-root philosophy in providing assistances and services to refugees and immigrants in Orange County, Saint Anselm's was among supporters for the special event.
The event was held at the Le-Jao Center of Coastline Community College located at 14120 All American Way, Westminster, CA 92683 from 10:00am to 1:00pm.
Hundreds of former refugees and immigrants gathered at the Le-Jao Center to celebrate the event. It was also a chance for refugees to meet and network with others; a chance for refugees to reminisce of their past, their "facing-death" escape journey, their happy time stepping on a land of freedom; a chance to learn of other cultures and traditions; a chance to see and view lives of current refugees in other countries and refugee camps through a special Video Clip; etc.
Organizations and individuals - Jack Toan (member of the Center's Board of Directors), Steve Park (chairperson of the Center's Board of Directors), Cung Pham (former Associate Director of the Center), Bob Jones (former Center's team member), Akhtar Khan, Nho Trong Nguyen, St. Anselm of Canterbury Episcopal Church, CalOptima - were also honored and recognized during the Refugee Day event for their dedication and contributions to enhance and enrich the newly-arrived refugees and immigrants.
The Refugee Day has somehow refreshed the memories of refugees and immigrants of their unforgetable past. Our past has, in fact, brought us what we have today. And what we are and have today is, indeed, a gift.
